BSKL Lions shine at Petaling Utama District Inter-school Sports Championships - Athletics

BSKL made a significant mark at the recently held Petaling Utama District Inter-school Sports Championships (MSSD) – Athletics at the Panasonic Shah Alam Sports Complex. The school ranked 8th overall in the Petaling Utama district.

The championships featured 125 schools and over 3,000 athletic entries across more than 150 events.

Despite the scorching heat and extremely high humidity, with the occasional gusts of wind making the competition even more demanding, the Lions – comprising Sasha, Zac and Pearl – fought for medals, district titles and a place on the district team over 6 days.

Sasha came into the championship as the defending champion in all three throwing events and successfully defended all her titles, winning three Gold medals in the Discus, Shot Put and Javelin, breaking her own records in the process.

For Discus, she had a throw of 41.24 metres and won the Gold medal by over 16 metres ahead of the silver medallist.

For Shot Put, she had a championship-winning throw of 12.3m and won the Gold medal by over 3 metres ahead of her competitors.

For Javelin, Sasha had a throw of 34.96 metres, winning the Gold medal.

These tremendous results got her awarded the prestigious P1 Athlete of the Year for her outstanding performances throughout the championship.

She was also named Overall Athlete of the Year for the Petaling Utama District Secondary Schools, recognising her as the top female athlete across all secondary age groups in the Petaling Utama district.

It was a bittersweet moment for Sasha as she represented the BSKL Lions for the final time at the 2026 MSSD Championships, having first competed at 11 years old in 2020.

What began as her first competition, proudly representing the BSKL Lions, became the start of an incredible sports journey that has since seen her represent her state in Selangor and her country, Malaysia, on the national and international stage.

Meanwhile, Zac entered the competition as the defending district champion in all throwing events, carrying the pressure of defending his titles against other competitors as one of Selangor’s leading U15 throwers.

But he managed to win two gold medals in the Shot Put and Discus and broke the MSSD Petaling Utama Shot Put record.

In Shot Put, Zac produced a consistent series of throws and broke the record with a championship-winning throw of 12.82 metres.

In Discus, he led the competition from the opening round and remained in first place throughout, claiming the gold medal with a throw of 39.8 metres.

He capped off another outstanding and commendable performance at the championships, as he joined Sasha to represent Petaling Utama district at the Selangor state championships in August 2026.

Not to forget is Pearl, who competed in the P3 girls category, winning one Gold in Discus and one silver medal for Javelin,  with BSKL Lions after improving from her debut at last year’s MSSD.

It was a great performance from Pearl, whose throwing distances improved since last year’s MSSD championships,

Beyond the medals and records, MSSD has given the BSKL Lions so much more. It has created lifelong friendships with athletes from schools across the district, where competitors became friends, conversations flowed across different languages, and fellow athletes and officials cheered them on to achieve their best and break records in the true spirit of sportsmanship. These friendships, memories and shared experiences will remain just as meaningful as the medals the athletes take away.
