NAS Dubai's Year 5 maths team secured second place at the Maths Super League, competing against 44 schools and demonstrating exceptional teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Four Year 5 students from NAS Dubai put their mathematical knowledge, quick thinking and teamwork to the test at the Year 5 Maths Super League, hosted by Royal Grammar School Dubai (RGS). Competing against 44 other schools, Aaveer, Lawson, Reyaansh and Vishrav rose to the challenge, achieving an outstanding second-place finish in a competition that demanded both accuracy and composure.

The competition brought together some of the brightest young mathematical minds in Primary school. The day moved from mental maths to mathematical problem-solving before reaching a speed-and-accuracy relay final, with every calculated decision shaping the team’s progress.

The first challenge was a mental maths round featuring questions set at secondary-school level. With little time to spare, the team had to draw on their mathematical knowledge, recognise patterns and calculate accurately under pressure.

Next came a problem-solving round that called for a different approach. Rather than relying on speed alone, the students needed to think carefully, explore possible solutions and bring their ideas together. It was an opportunity to put their reasoning skills into practice, with each team member contributing to the challenge ahead.

The last round turned the competition into a fast-paced mathematical relay. The boys had to answer questions correctly before moving between teachers to check their solutions and collect the next challenge.

As the pace intensified, the team needed to stay organised, communicate clearly and remain focused on the task in front of them. Their ability to support one another and keep going under pressure proved just as important as their mathematical ability, demonstrating the value of collaboration alongside individual knowledge.

Lynda Duke praised the students’ performance, saying, "Team NAS performed incredibly today at the Maths Super League hosted by RGS. We came second in a competition with 44 other schools. The boys were a credit to NAS Dubai, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

After three challenging rounds, Team NAS secured an outstanding second place. Their result is a fantastic achievement, but just as meaningful was the way they approached each challenge, combining their strengths, learning from one another and maintaining their composure when it mattered most.

We are incredibly proud of all four students and look forward to seeing where their mathematical ability takes them next. Well done, Team NAS!
